The conference will take place on Newcastle Helix in the heart of the city centre at the Newcastle University Campus, in both the Frederick Douglass Centre and the Urban Sciences Building, which are adjacent buildings. The venue is within 10 minutes’ walk of a large variety of restaurants, accommodation and hotels.

THE CITY
Newcastle Upon Tyne is a diverse and exciting city set in a heart of North East England. It is a vibrant city with loads to do and experience!
If you want to get to know the city, a great place to start is the seven bridges across the River Tyne located at Quayside. In the city centre, you can visit the Discovery Museum and from there you can go to the iconic stadium St James’ Park. To engage with the history, you can visit Newcastle Castle, Newcastle Cathedral or Victoria Tunnel where you can book a tour. Situated in the heart of Newcastle City Centre is the Grey’s Monument which is also a point where you can find entertainment, markets or the Eldon Square shopping centre.
THE COAST
Want to explore beyond the city? Only 20 minutes away, visit Tynemouth and Whitley Bay to explore the beautiful British coastline. Visit Riley’s Fish Shack located on the seafront for some delicious seasonal fish and seafood or the famous Tynemouth Market which takes place over the weekend at the platforms at Tynemouth Metro Station. To finish your North East coast experience, visit the Lord Collingwood Monument or the Tynemouth Priory and Castle.
THE COUNTRY
Newcastle offers many parks and gardens you can explore – Jesmond Dene, Exhibition Park or Armstrong Park. Gateshead (a town on the River Tyne’s southern bank, opposite Newcastle) is also an easy visit to the beautiful countryside. Gibside National Trust is an 18th-century landscape garden and Saltwell Park Gateshead is a Victorian park. Very popular experience for tourists is visiting the famous Angel of the North which is the largest sculpture of an angel in the world or discovering the Hadrian’s wall. If you want to go beyond and see the surrounding countryside, you can visit the Northumberland National Park or Kielder Forest Park. For magnificent castles, explore Alnwick Castle (which is the second largest inhabited castle in the UK) or Chillingham Castle.
PLACES TO EAT
Newcastle is bursting with top-level food and restaurant scene. If you stop by the river, restaurants such as The Broad Chare, Trakol, Khai Khai, or Six can be perfect places to eat. , are great to visit when in the city centre.
